Living on the Water in Kent County

In the mid-18th century, Chestertown was one of Maryland's leading ports and was named one of the colony's six Royal Ports of Entry. Chestertown’s shipbuilding past has been revived by The Sultana Education Foundation’s community effort to build a replica of the 1768 schooner SULTANA in Chestertown, Maryland, between 1997-2001. Today the Sultana Education Foundation provides both land-based and water-based experiential education to students of all ages emphasizing the Chesapeake Bay’s history, culture, and environment.

Eastern Shore Visitors and residents alike enjoy Kent County's rural landscape, walking the tree-lined historic towns, visiting the shops, galleries and restaurants. The easy access to the Chesapeake Bay, Chester River and other waterways affords opportunities for all types of water activities and boating.
