OXFORD HOMES FOR SALE

Oxford is a charming, quiet seaside walking town that is recognized for its charm with cottages and historic homes along the Tred Avon River. The Oxford Community Center, a brick schoolhouse saved from the wrecking ball by the town residents, is a gathering place for the community for meetings, classes, lectures, dinner theater and performances by the Tred Avon Players.

Oxford gained significant prominence in colonial days when mandated in 1694 by Maryland legislation as the first and only port-of-entry on the Easton Shore.  Second only to Annapolis, Oxford was recognized as port to the largest number of ships. The most prominent merchant was Robert Morris who arrived in 1738.  A part of Morris’ residence is incorporated in the Robert Morris Inn.  Dating back to 1710, The Robert Morris Inn is America's oldest Inn.

Life in Oxford

Oxford is one of the oldest towns in America and has a long history in maritime activities. With a population of less than 1000, Oxford has retained its historic charm. You may find local watermen at the town dock unloading the catch of the day. Sailboats arrive from all over the Chesapeake Bay with visitors walking around the town and dining at local restaurants.

The town offers a scenic wharf, public landing and walking trails and parks. Millstream Park is located on the south end of town and provides play structures, a pavilion, basketball court, benches, sidewalk connections, entrance walls, a paved walking trail and many trees.  The Centreville Wharf and Waterfront are open to the public to provide access to the Corsica River and boasts a 450 foot boardwalk including two observation/fishing platforms and 5 finger piers with ten boat slips.

One of Oxford’s main attractions is the Oxford-Bellevue Ferry.  Believed to be the oldest privately owned ferry in the United States, the Ferry was started in 1683.  Service has been continuous since 1836, with power supplied by sail, sculling, rowing, steam, and modern diesel engine. Enjoy the scenic ferry trip between Oxford and Bellevue. The Oxford Museum began in 1964 and offers more than 325 years of history.  Museum exhibits showcase old photographs, pottery, boat building and waterman tools, models, war items and a small Skipjack replica. https://www.oxfordmuseum.org/
