Talbot County Information
Founded in 1661, Talbot County is one of the oldest areas of European settlement in the New World. It’s history has always been linked to the water with various activities including merchant vessels trading, shipbuilding, sailing, fishing, and seafood harvesting. Many centuries ago, Native Americans discovered Talbot County's wealth of natural resources and profusion of waterways for ease in travel. Later European settlers were also drawn to the area.
In 1683, its first town, Oxford, served as a port of call for vessels from all over the world. Its early shipbuilding center, St. Michaels, created the sailing craft later known as the "Baltimore Clipper" famous in the War of 1812.
Easton Airport is located 2-miles north of town. It is a general aviation airport and provides access for corporate plots, local businesses and aviation enthusiasts. It’s history dates back to World War II when it was constructed for use by the military.
